3D Structural Topology Optimization Using ESO, SESO and SERA: Comparison and an Extension to Flexible Mechanisms

This article investigates the study of Topology Optimization (TO) in 3D elasticity problems to determine optimal topology by applying evolutionary methods Smoothing Evolutionary Structural (SESO), Sequential Element Rejection and Admission (SERA), (ESO). These procedures were implemented MATLAB code as an extension Top3d for SIMP using eight-node hexahedral finite element formulation three-dimensional elastostatic structures. The approaches conducted present are demonstrated with numerical examples involving compliance minimization criterion. Further, a brief synthesis flexible mechanisms was studied emphasize performance complaint measured terms two design specifications/functionalities: mechanical geometrical advantages, which highlights this article. To show gains proposed methods, results obtained compared Solid Isotropic Material Penalization (SIMP) models.
